Making smart personal finance decisions will ensure that you make the most of your money. Here are some tips to help you earn, save, spend and invest wisely.
Jump start your saving efforts by immediately setting aside even the smallest amount possible and depositing it in a piggy bank, jar, or coffee can. Resist the urge to constantly count your savings as it may lead to discouragement in the earliest days. The trick is simply to make regular contributions and eliminate withdrawals.
Enlist the help of a friend to cut the fat from your spending. Let a trusted friend or family member look at your budget and spending habits. Sometimes the unbiased eye of another person will bring to light an area in which you can but back or are overspending.
Get a credit card that rewards you with frequent flyer miles. This is a great tip only if you are diligent about paying off your card balance monthly. These cards usually give you a big bonus miles bump on your first purchase, plus miles for every dollar you put on the card. You could be earning free flights very quickly.
Keep track of your pennies. So many people these days throw pennies away and do not realize that they will add up if they save them. Every penny can make a difference in the long run and they should be counted as a part of your income. You will find that they can provide a decent amount of money to your savings.
To make your savings account earn money while you sit back and watch, invest in a long term fixed rate. These accounts offer a higher, fixed interest rate for a longer period of time. Most banks offer high interest to get your money, then cut the rate after a few months. Long term fixed rate accounts will have your money making money while it is in the bank.
Find a reasonable budget to go by, so you can track what you are spending and save money. It doesn’t matter how much money you make, you should always know what you are spending. If you follow a budget you will be more inclined to stick to it. This will help you save more money. USA Green Card Lottery
To sell an item, draw attention to it with a catchy slogan or a good price. For example, a person trying to sell a truck in the winter could say “Need a good winter vehicle, here is a ……” Do this and instead of your items being overlooked you’ll get the sells you need.
If you must get a credit card to manage your finances, try for a no-fee rewards card. While credit cards can easily cause more damage than do good, a rewards card will at least give you something back for the money you spend on it. Don’t be tempted to overspend to earn those rewards, though.
Few things can improve your bottom-line more than making smart personal finance decisions. Use the tips above to help you make wise choices regarding the use of money! The range is wide, from making money to saving it, not to mention knowing how to wisely spend it, good personal finance habits will help carry you through bad times as well as better enjoy the good times!

Pick a visa
There are basically NINE ways that you can get a visa to live and work in the US:
(1) Marriage (or engagement in anticipation of marriage) to a US citizen.
(2) You have skills that are in supply in the US e.g. scientific or medical training. A degree is normally a must. Or you have superior specialist skills with at least 12 years experience. (H visas)
(3) You have an Employer who is willing to transfer you – but even the employer has to make a good case for you – so you have to be a manager unless you fall under category (2) above.(L visas)
(4) You may get a Green card in the diversity lottery (UK citizens, except N.Ireland, are not generally eligible unless you, your spouse or parents were born abroad or held a different citizenship.
(5)You own or buy business (does not get you permanent resident status i.e. no green card)You must be a national of a qualifying Treaty countries. The business must have a minimum value of around $150k (more the better) bearing in mind you will need somewhere to live and with any business you will need at least 2 years living money as back up. So a figure of $350k would be a nearer minimum (E-2 visas)
(6)You are an "investor" i.e. you have at least US $1m in assets to bring with you. half of that in a few areas. And your background will be investigated to the hilt. (EB-5 visas)
(7)You have a close relative (mother, father, brother, sister and no who is an US citizen who would sponsor you, approx time this take 2-12 years?
(8.The R1 visa is available to foreign members of religious denominations, having bona fide non-profit religious organizations in the U.S., for entering the U.S. to carry on the activities of a minister or religious worker as a profession, occupation or vocation
(9)THE UNUSUAL You are in a position to claim refugee status/political asylum. or You get a member of Congress to sponsor a private bill with legislation that applies just to you.
The S visa issued to persons who assist US law enforcement to investigate and prosecute crimes and terrorist activities such as money laundering and organized crime
Recruitment agent will not take you seriously if you are not already in the US. Writing for jobs is really a waste of time; likewise US employers have no idea what foreign qualification are or mean (except Degrees) it may pay you to get your qualification translated into a US equivalent, there are Companies that do this (www.wes.org) ..
But if you are getting a visa under (2) above then you need a job offer before you can get the visa. Your Employer will be your sponsor this will cost them upward of $5k. So you can see you have to be offering something really special to get considered They may also have to prove to the Dept of labor that there is no American who can do the job if the position is to be permanent ©
To obtain green card, you must have a sponsor who has to file Petition for you. A sponsor can be your immediate family member who is US Citizen or US Permanent Resident. Your immediate family member means, your spouse, parent, own child, siblings. Also, US Employer who is hiring you permanently can be a sponsor.
Once they file Petition and approved, you have to wait until you have visa available, except marriage to US Citizen which you always have available visa, to apply for the immigrant visa at US Embassy. After that visa is approved and you enter US, you will get green card in mail.
Since you have no family or US Employer in US, you are pretty much out of option.

Yes, he will lose his green card if he leaves the country for a prolonged period of time. Even if you marry him, he apply for residency if both out of the country — or if you leave the country while that long process is pending.
Often, foreigners just take U.S. citizenship to make their lives easier. While the U.S. might not recognize dual citizenship, it mean that Chile Some countries simply care. Talk to an attorney or someone "in the know" in Chile to find out. And, often, foreigners admit to U.S. citizenship so they lose their home (i.e., Chilean) citizenship.
The (Green Card) Diversity Lottery Visa is for people BORN in countries that traditionally do not send many immigrants to the United States. To be eligible a person must be born in a country that sends fewer than 50,000 immigrants to the USA annually.
Only those born in Ireland are eligible.
I should also point out, just because a person "wins" in the Diversity Lottery does not mean he/she will actually get a visa to come live in the United States. That person must still meet all the eligibility requirements.
Well, bulls***.
Get yourself an H1B. That allows you to work and immigrate.
Or since you have your own business, you can get a special entrepreneur visa. INV-EB5.
And there are other immigration visa types available.
Why the heck would they want to?
someone has been pulling your leg – there is no such thing.
100% scam.
While there is a USAFIS green card diversity (DV) lottery, that email did NOT come from the US government.
The US government uses "dot gov" email addresses NOT "usa.com", NOT "yahoo.com" or anything else. The US government notifies winners via the United States postal service by sending paperwork to their home address NEVER via email. The next email will be from another of the fake names and free email addresses pretending to be the "diversity lottery official" and will contain a list of made-up fees to be paid in cash, and only by Western Union or moneygram.
Western Union and moneygram do not verify anything on the form the sender fills out, not the name, not the street address, not the country, not even the gender of the receiver, it all means absolutely nothing. The clerk will not bother to check ID and will simply hand off your cash to whomever walks in the door with the and question/answer. Neither company will tell the sender who picked up the cash, at what store location or even in what country your money walked out the door. Neither company has any kind of refund policy, money sent is money gone forever.
Now that you have responded to a scammer, you are on his sucker' list, he will try again to separate you from your cash. He will send you more emails from his other free email addresses using another of his fake names with all kinds of stories of great jobs, lottery winnings, millions in the bank and desperate, lonely, sexy singles. He will sell your email address to all his scamming buddies who will also send you dozens of fake emails all with the exact same goal, you sending them your cash via Western Union or moneygram.
Do you know how to check the header of a received email? If not, you could google for information. Being able to read the header to determine the geographic location an email originated from will help you weed out the most obvious scams and scammers. Then delete and block that scammer. bother to tell him that you know he is a scammer, it your He has one job in life, convincing victims to send him their hard-earned cash.
Whenever suspicious or just plain curious, google everything, website addresses, names used, companies mentioned, phone numbers given, all email addresses, even sentences from the emails as you might be unpleasantly surprised at what you find already posted online. You can also post/ask here and every scam-warner-anti-fraud-busting site you can find before taking a chance and losing money to a scammer.
If you google "fake green card lottery", "fraud diversity DV lottery scam", green card Western Union scam" or something similar you will find hundreds of posts of victims and near-victims of this type of scam.

Other Government Websites
It's a scam. The domain is not a .gov domain a .org which is NEVER used by the government), but even more winners are no longer notified by email. The ONLY way to find out if you have been selected is to go to the official site and enter your entry confirmation number together with your name and date of
The official site
The green card lottery is real. Look it up on
The web site that you found is a scam though.
Of course it is. do it.
I would build on what someone above said. My xgf is from Australia and lives there. She didnt want to move here long term so we broke up. But this was our plan… Try to get residency in Canada in Winnipeg. Once she got residency she from there she could be in the USA for 90 days at a time. I live in Minnesota, about a 7 hour drive. So basically get a "roommate" up in Winnipeg – pay someone to use their address for residency purposes. Then stay down here for weeks or months a time. Periodically go back to "refresh papers".
My plan only works with knowing someone in the USA.
55,000 free passes a year, but its only after someone fills out all 36 pages of application..
100% SCAM
1 – that is NOT a US government email. If it were it would be from
2 – Winners are NEVER notified by email.
3 – Winners were notified in July 2011 if they won or not by checking their results on the State Entrant Status Check website
4 – The US government does not accept Western Union payments
5 – the DV lottery does NOT cost $879
This is a cruel scam
Well I beg to differ with a previous answer but I think Canadians ARE eligible for the DV lottery. According to this web page they are:
It states this:
"First, the green card lottery was set up in order to bring in more immigrants from countries that do not typically immigrate to the US. The goal is to provide a more diverse nation in the United States by welcoming citizens of other countries to live and work in the USA Because of that, only countries are able to apply to the green card lottery. Canada is one such country. Canadians that are interested in the green card lottery can apply online at websites."
On the same website there is a list of countries that are eligible to apply. And I see Canada on the list. So I admit that the information is a bit contradicting. Here is the web page with the list:
But I went to the application web page and Canada is in the drop down menu of countries that are on the application. Here is the web page from that same site where you can apply for the US green card lottery:
Hope that confuse you. All the best.
Edit: Ok, I stand corrected. My appologies to the asker and other answer givers. Canadians are not eligible for the DV lottery for 2011. But there is a small twist. If your parents are from a country on the "list of appoved countries" then you CAN still apply.
there are many like it … the stupid fall for it … but it states clearly the goverment version is free ..
It is true and yes – but a scam.
All they are doing, for their fee, is entering your name in the lottery that the US holds each year for green cards for people from "under-represented nations".
You can do it yourself for free. Here is the official US Government site for the Diversity Visa
However registration is only open during October and November it seems.
As you see, it warns you against wasting money to pay someone to enter you, when you can do it yourself.
This is directly from the US government website:
"Please Note: There have been instances of fraudulent websites posing as official U.S. Government sites. Some companies posing as the U.S. Government have sought money in order to "complete" lottery entry forms. There is no charge to download and complete the Electronic Diversity Visa Entry Form. The of State notifies successful Diversity Visa applicants by letter, and NOT by e-mail. To learn more see the of State Warning and the Federal Trade Commission Warning."
Ridiculous
The official site is: http://www.USAGreenCardLottery.Org
Basically you can win a green card that will be valid for a limited time in which you can legally enter the USA and try to find work. in the lottery does cost money and there is of course no guarantee that you will actually get a green card. Should you win, the drawback is that it is valid for a limited time only and that you still have to try and find work yourself. It is official, but I think it is a rip off method from the US governement to balance out their deficit.
Yes, a scam
Get an Irish and yes you can enter
when you are old enough ..of course than can change any year
It is yes – but a scam.
All they are doing, for their fee, is entering your name in the lottery that the US holds each year for green cards for people from "under-represented nations".
You can do it yourself for free. Here is the official US Government site for the Diversity Visa program…
the DV-2011 Diversity Visa Lottery online entry registration period has ended; therefore, registrations cannot be entered now. The DV-2011 Diversity Visa lottery entry registration period was between noon, Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) (GMT-4), Friday, October 2, 2009, and noon, Eastern Standard Time (EST) (GMT-5), Monday, November 30, 2009.
As you see, it warns you against wasting money to pay someone to enter you, when you can do it yourself and not even open now.
Definitely contact an immigration lawyer. As you can see, answer is different. That because they know what they are talking about, it is because no one understands American legal policies, even from one branch of civil service to the next. Get a lawyer. Spend the 100 bucks for the hour consultation, and know for sure what is what, right now.
Immigration is a hot-button topic right now. There have been many changes in US policy recently, and more are sure to be on the way.
Spend the money. See the lawyer. Know for sure. Only then can your BF really evaluate his options, as he will know what they really are.
Good luck on your marriage and your impending world travel! There is nothing like travel to know what is really going on.
The only official way to apply for the DV lottery is directly through the official U.S. of State Website during the specified and limited-time registration period.
